50 Basic Safety Rules in the Workplace

  1. Know how to carry out the assigned task. If unconfident, ask questions of your supervisor.
  2. Examine tasks and recognize probable safety hazards.
  3. All employees are required to wear protective equipment. This may include, but not limited to, steel toe boots, hard hats, safety glasses, slicker suits, gloves, climbing harnesses, rope fall devices, respirators, hearing protection and face shields. Wearing jewelry in areas using machinery and equipment is forbidden.
  4. Provide instruction to new employees along with proper lifting techniques
  5. Remove potential unsafe conditions and know the location of first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
  6. Constantly be aware of where other employees are working.
  7. Review procedures for emergency evacuation situations.
  8. Practice good housekeeping
  9. Immediately clean up all spills
  10. Remove and properly store all equipment and tools.
  11. Dispose of waste material in designated disposal containers.
  12. Secure all gas bottles in designated areas.
  13. Disposed of trash in marked containers
  14. Horseplay is strictly prohibited
  15. Construction work shoes are required on all job sites.
  16. Do not climb or work from unapproved surfaces
  17. Never jump onto a moving vehicle or machinery.
  18. Only qualified employees are to operate equipment.
  19. Report any defective tools or equipment
  20. Keep a clean work area
  21. Do not alter any safety device
  22. Be acquainted with the locations of all first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
  23. Be alert for any hazardous safety conditions and report them if you are unable to correct them.
  24. Store flammable materials only in a designated containers
  25. Discontinue running all engines before refueling.
  26. Do not leave operating equipment unattended
  27. Discard damaged equipment.
  28. Do not repair machinery while it is operating
  29. Every employee should use the safety devices provided and not remove any of the safeguards or machine guards.
  30. Do not operate any machinery until all guards or safety devices are in place and are in satisfactory condition.
  31. Never cut, weld or burn in a confined space, cylinder or tank unless it is certified gas free.
  32. When transporting oxygen and acetylene tanks, make sure the gauges have been removed and the caps are installed.
  33. Wear safety goggles when grinding, chipping, or sanding
  34. Fighting is immediate dismissal.
  35. Employees in high noise areas will use hearing protection.
  36. All trash should be put in a trash barrels.
  37. Help employees use safety rules and report anything unsafe
  38. There will be random drug testing.
  39. Drivers and passengers must wear seat belts
  40. While at work, there should be no outside visitors unless approved
  41. All accidents shall be reported
  42. Accident reports and necessary information should be forwarded to managers as soon as possible.
  43. Accidents involving medical attention shall be reported immediately
  44. Think before you act and if you are unable to safely perform your job, then consult your Supervisor.
  45. Be alert and always expect the unexpected and unplanned for situation
  46. Tools are for specific uses; always use the right tool.
  47. Keep your tools and equipment in good condition.
  48. Work gloves should be worn while handling wire rope, cables, and chains
  49. Always wear proper clothing including long pants and tie up long hair
  50. Remove rings and jewelry before work
